Although we are always thankful to step into a cab that is clean and tidy do we think there is room for taxi drivers to get more inventive with their cars? Well according to the people of Mumbai – yes! An innovative project, called Taxi Fabric, has seen a number of taxicabs in Mumbai transformed into impeccable pieces of art, a scheme that strives to change the public’s perception about the importance of design.
Highlighting the importance of design
In Mumbai design has never really been recognised as a worthwhile profession, never really encouraging youngsters to pursue careers as creative. Taxi Fabric said: ‘We want to help Indian designers have their work not only be seen but also allow them to connect with members of the public who up until now perhaps haven’t understood that design can tell stories and create emotions.’ They are aiming to reach £10,000 to help 100 young Indian designers exhibit their work to 120,000 people by Christmas, a mission that we get these creative minds celebrated. Here is some of their work out on the road as we speak.
